Business feature: ICT for Growth
Resolution Television, based in Scunthorpe has recently received a £5,000 grant from the ICT for Growth scheme at the #GrowMySME programme. This ERDF programme is managed by Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) for businesses across the Humber.
Resolution Television will use the ICT for Growth grant to assist in the funding of a studio with the capacity to offer high-end 4K videos to display in a unique, branded, CGI studio for each client. This involves filming a presenter for each client in a Chroma key studio, which is then edited into the CGI backdrop. This way different backgrounds can be utilised for each client, with space for guests to be invited and interviewed.
To accommodate this new service, the business is currently looking at expanding its existing floor space. This would enable the business to have sufficient space and appropriate room layout and sound proofing to carry out the Chroma key studio.
Resolution create bespoke, online health and safety induction and e-learning systems for a number of large corporate clients. Including the steel industry, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, the Ministry of Defence, bulk liquid storage and more.
The Chroma Key Studio service is a visual effects/ post production technique for compositing (layering) two images or video streams together based on colour hues (Chroma range). The technique has been used in many fields to remove a background from the subject of a photo or video – particularly in news casting, motion picture and video games industries. A colour range in the foreground footage is made transparent, allowing separately filmed background footage or a static image to be inserted into the scene. The Chroma keying technique is commonly used in video production and post-production. It is also referred to as colour keying, colour-separation overlay or by various terms for specific colour-related variants such as green screen and blue screen. Chroma keying can be done with backgrounds of any colour that are uniform and distinct, but green and blue backgrounds are more commonly used because they differ most distinctly in hue from more human skin colours.
This service will be linked to a CGI (computer-generated imagery) studio backdrop. CGI is an application of computer graphics to create or contribute to images in art, printed media, video games, films, television programmes, shorts, commercials, videos and simulators. The visual scenes may be dynamic or static, and may be two-dimensional (2D), though the term ‘CGI’ is most commonly used to refer to 3D computer graphics used for creating scenes or special effects in films and television.
Additionally, the use of 2D CGI is often mistakenly referred to as "traditional animation", most often in the case when dedicated animation software such as Adobe Flash or Toon Boom is not used or the CGI is hand drawn using a tablet and mouse.
