Become a ‘Forces Friendly’ employer

Employers across North Lincolnshire are encouraged to sign the Armed Forces Covenant to declare their support for the Armed Forces community.

Reservists and veterans bring a range of transferrable skills and qualities to the civilian workplace, developed throughout their military careers.

By signing the Armed Forces Covenant, employers of any size and from any industry, can publicly declare their support.

The Covenant has been signed by companies nationwide; from Amazon and BAE systems to Stoll and Yodel – enabling them to progress to a nationally recognised Award through the Defence Employer Recognition scheme.

North Lincolnshire Council is a Silver Award holder through the scheme and employs an officer who can support your organisation in signing the Covenant.

The Covenant pledge is voluntary and employers can tailor it to the needs of their business, recognising that most veterans leave the forces, enriched by their service.

It has two core statements:

  1. No member of the of the Armed Forces should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services
  2. In some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate, especially for the injured and bereaved

There are a number of ways you can be ‘Forces Friendly’ through your pledge, which will benefit your business:

  • Employment of reservists and veterans
Transferrable skills developed to a high level over years of service in the Armed Forces include leadership, teamwork and performance under pressure, as well as specialist skills and trades.
  • Support for Cadet Units
Offers a valuable opportunity for engagement with the local community as part of corporate social responsibility.
  • Participation in Armed Forces Day
Promoting yourself as an Armed Forces friendly organisation offers an opportunity to reach a large audience – the Armed Forces community as well as those that support it.
  • Offering discounts to the community
Companies offering discounts to the Armed Forces Community through the Defence Discount Service are advertised on the DDS website and app, and are reaching an audience of more than 88,000 consumers across the country.
